Fighting Activities
Buzkashi (aka Bouzhkashi, Kok-boru, Ulak Tartysh, or Oglak Tartis) is a Central Asian game that translates roughly as "grab the goat." It is still played in present-day Turkmenistan , Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan , and other parts of the Middle East and Central Asia (see individual country entries in CIA World Factbook). Players ride horses, and even at full gallop, they grab goats or other herd animals off the ground. The object of the game is to get the goat across a goal line into a circle guarded by the other team. The opposing team can block the carrier of the goat by any means possible—so it is often highly competitive and quite dangerous. Buzkashi bears some resemblance to modern day polo.

In the SCA, the game is sometimes known as "sheep rugby." According to Wikipedia's entry, "two evenly divided teams of any size compete for control of a stuffed fabric sheep. The sheep is placed in a circle in the center of a playing field with one stake at either end. On signal, the teams rush from the stakes to the center and the sheep is carried around both end posts once and then returned to the center circle. The side whose members return the largest portion of the fake sheep score one point. Play continues until either side scores two points."

If you come to Jour d'Amour, you'll get a chance to play this exciting game which requires both skill and endurance! For more information, contact the autocrats.

Rapier:

Champion of the Company Competition - During Feast
Each of the winning entries, plus a Steward's Selection, will be invited back to perform / recite during the feast. The populace will then have the opportunity to select the best overall entry who will be deemed Champion of the Company and will win a fantastic Champion's cloak crafted by The Honorable Lady Katrina of Coventry.
