 Meridien
Rapier is not fought with rattan sticks and heavy plate armor. Instead
we use steel schlagers with rubber tips and protective clothing
(primarily). This lighter equipment allows for greater
mobility about the field and more theatrical antics when
appropriate. For
your first lesson, the only equipment you will need is enthusiasm. As
your training continues, you will be expected to begin assembling
your armor (protective clothing). However, most of our
instructors will have some extra equipment for you to borrow,
while you are working on it. In
order to authorize, we DO require you to own your own armor, but you DO NOT
have to have your own mask/helm or weapons. This way, you can try your
hand at Meridien Rapier and see if you like it, before you invest in the more
expensive pieces of equipment. |
One
of the first SCA activities that draws the attention and interest
of people is a form of combat commonly referred to as Heavy Weapons
Combat There are no restrictions as to the size or gender
of a fighter, however, heavy fighters must be 18 years or older
to authorize. If you are interested in heavy combat, we
suggest that you come to a fighter practice to see what is
being done. Many fighters carry extra equipment with them
and you may be able to armor-up and try out heavy combat. Once
you decide you like heavy combat (and all the bruises that go
with it) your fellow fighters can help direct you to sources
for finding your own armor and weapons. You will need your
own equipment to authorize. |
If you have any questions
about SCA combat (heavy or rapier), please contact the Shire
Marshal, THL
Elijah Cameron of the Black Isle.

Fighter
Practice: Held every Sunday at Fair Road Park in Statesboro,
around 2 PM.
Directions :
On Hwy 67/Fair Road, head north. You will reach two traffic lights
close together, the first at Gentilly and the second at Chandler
(this takes you onto campus). The next light is Herty, which
is also an entrance onto the GSU campus. Continuing on Fair Rd
you will pass an Arby's, a Food Lion, numerous fast food restaurants
and a small strip center, all on the right, with the campus on
your left. At the next light (Zetterower: Wendy's will be on
the right) stay in the middle lane and go straight. You will
see a baseball field on the right, and a brick building (this
is the Parks and Recreation building). Take the first right at
the building. **You pass the building, a small playground, and
tennis courts. We usually set up for practice just past the tennis
courts. From the north, take your best route to 301 South (also
Main St North/South). Immediately after crossing the railroad
tracks take a left (in front of a tattoo shop) and immediate
right (these are two tight turns). The Rec Center building will
be in front of you on the left. Take the left and follow the
directions above from the **. |
