can, over time, delve as lightly or deeply as you want. But
the deeper you go, the more questions you find yourself

Iron
Garb Competition by THL Dianora Lizabetta di Cellini
The Incipient Shire of Drakenmere will host its first Iron Garb Competition at
Summer Collegia III. This is a one-day competition that will test the abilities
of the best costumers Meridies has to offer!
The goal of the competition is to produce 4 pieces of loaner garb. They must
be outer garments - no underclothes or chemises, and also no cloaks. The winning
group's item will go to the loaner closet of the group of their choice - the
other pieces will be given to the Drakenmere garb closet.
The competition is limited to four teams, with up to four team members (not counting
the item's model - ie, each item must be modeled at feast that evening, but the
model can be but does not have to be a member of the team). Teams must sign up
with Dianora (see contact info below) before the event. Deadline for registering
is August 14, 2006.
Each group gets 5 yards of the same fabric Also included will be 4 yards of trim,
two spools of thread, and assorted (not identical) notions - feathers, bead,
buttons, etc. All fabric will be put into a basket and weighed. Notions will
be counted. We will provide tables, chairs, space, and the basket, but that's
all - each group must provide their own sewing machines, scissors, pins,
etc.
Teams may bring extra fabric, undergarments, jewelry, etc. to accessorize or
complement their garment. Some costume reference books will be available.
The competition will begin at 9:30 and they must stop sewing by 4:00 and be cleaned
up by 4:30 . At 4:00, each group needs to have their completed (or as close to
completed as possible) garment and BRIEF research/documentation. All fabric not
used, even scraps, must go back into the basket to be reweighed.
Items will be judged based on:
1. Best overall completed garment (20 pts)
2. Creative use of materials (extra points for using the most fabric and
notions) (10 pts)
3. Research (10 pts)
4. Presentation (10 pts)
Total possible points: 50
To register, please contact Dianora di Cellini at dicellini
at gmail dot com to register or if you have any questions.
Look forward to seeing you at Summer Collegia III! |
