Newcomer and Vistor Information

Please visit our website at http://www.drakenmere.org for more information about our shire and the SCA.

WHAT TO WEAR

You will need to wear garb – Please wear a reasonable attempt at pre-1600 clothing, since all SCA events must maintain a period "atmosphere." Women/girls: try a peasant blouse and long skirt. Men/boys: choose a long-sleeved tee shirt and plain pants.

Please contact Rosamund_SCA@yahoo.com to reserve a loaner garb or a tabard in advance!

Wear comfy sandals or flat shoes – you'll have more fun in medieval dance class! Please, no sneakers.

WHAT ABOUT FOOD

Lunch is not included in your entrance fee . Our friends from the Shir e of Forth Castle ( Savannah ) will accept modern money if you'd like to buy a fund-raiser lunch .

You must register & pay in advance for evening feast . For the rest, you will be responsible for your own meals, snacks, drinks throughout the day.

WHAT TO BRING

Feast gear is required if you are staying for feast . For each person, bring a plate, a bowl, a mug or cup, and utensils (ceramic, wood or metal – no disposables).

A blanket or a collapsible camp chair, water and sunscreen . Even though the building is air-conditioned, there are also outdoor activities - and a playground for the kids.

We suggest a wicker basket or canvas tote to carry things in , if you don't have a belt and pouch yet. What can we say – medieval clothes generally didn't include pockets!

SOME OTHER NOTES

•  Check in at the “TROLL” booth – be sure to pick up the program of activities

•  Be your own sitter – all children under 13 must remain in sight of the adult in charge

•  Morning classes in medieval hand to hand combat will take place on the greensward

•  Some hands-on classses include materials fees, so please plan ahead

•  Feast will consist of several courses of medieval dishes, including dessert – yum!
